John Henry York
Born in Chicago, Il in 1945, age 78, and passed away Thursday, May 9th, 2024, at Meadowbrook Manor Nursing Home in Bolingbrook, IL. John was a resident of the Carillon Community of Plainfield, IL for the past 33 years. John was a retired US Navy Seabee, serving five tours in Vietnam, from1965 to 1986. He was a Past Commander of the American Legion 11th District, Past Will County Commander, Past Commander of Marne Plainfield Post 13, Past Grand Chef de Gare of the La Societe Des 40 Hommes et 8 Chevaux, and a member of the Bolingbrook V.F.W. Post 5917. John also served on the council and is a Past President of St. John's Lutheran Church in Joliet, where he was an active member for many years. John is survived by his loving wife Nancy York; children John York Jr, and Chad York. John was a wonderful step-father and was loved dearly by his step-children, Annette Bennett, Andrew Drajus, Walter Bennett, and Laurice Bennett; He is also survived by sister Dorothy (Chuck) Simmerman; grandchildren Nicole Marie Yagoda, Timothy McMillan, and Brian Lee Bennett, also great granddaughter Tyler Noel Bennett. Preceded in death by his parents Henry William and Margaret Susan York; sister Margaret Susan (Raymond) Cohen and brother Robert York. John will be interred privately with Military Honors at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL. There will be a Celebration of Life Service at St. John's Lutheran Church in Joliet IL at a future date.
