CONGERVILLE – "J.T." Johnathan Blake Thompson, 37, of Congerville, Illinois, passed away suddenly on Monday, December 8, 2025, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born on February 15, 1988, in
West Monroe, Louisiana, to George "Rodney" and Angela (Dupree) Thompson. J.T. was raised by his paternal grandparents, George "Papaw" and Beverly "Mamaw" Thompson. He married Shari A. Roth on May 30, 2015, in Goodfield, Illinois.
Surviving are his wife, Love of his life, Shari Thompson of Congerville; daughter, Joy of his life, Blakely Thompson at home; half-siblings, Timothy and Thomas Thompson and Hanna Medaries; in-laws, Mark and Tammy Roth of Congerville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kristin (Phillip) Wyss of Elgin, Iowa, Michael (Whitney) Roth of Burlington, Iowa, Julie (Russell) Knobloch of Carlock, and Jacob (Elise) Roth of Congerville; maternal grandparents-in-law, Ralph and Linda Knapp of Congerville; Uncle and Aunt, Paul and Denese Dunn and cousins, Derek (Brittani) Parker and Drew Parker, best friend, Ryan (Kacie) Brown of
West Monroe, Louisiana; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, his paternal and maternal grandparents.
J.T. was a man defined by his unwavering loyalty, his infectious humor, and his generous heart. He was known by his friends and family as one of the most intentional people they had ever met, someone who was always thinking three to four steps ahead in life and business. He was also known for having multiple side projects going in the garage. Along with being a jack of all trades to family. His willingness to help showed how much he cared about the ones he held close. His attention to detail and pride in his work were most evident in his ownership and operation of Distinctly Clean in Congerville, where he loved serving his customers with top-tier service. He was a member of the Deer Creek American Legion, showing his commitment to service and camaraderie. Growing up the West Monroe High School football team and power lifting team were a big part of his life.
J.T. had a unique and special bond with his Bernese Mountain Dog, Hugo, whom he lovingly referred to as Blakely's brother. J.T. often joked that Hugo embodied many of his own properties, especially his loving and attentive nature and even their birthdays.
Above all, J.T. was a devoted Christian with a strong belief in Christ as his Lord and Savior, a faith he lived and sought out daily. His commitment to others was demonstrated when he and Glyn Knight started a men's group through Connect Church in Washington, where J.T. and Shari are active members.
J.T. will be remembered for the light he brought into every room and the strength of his commitment to God, family, and those he loved. His loved ones take comfort in knowing he is now resting in the arms of his Savior.
A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, December 14, 2025, at Connect Church in Washington, with Pastor Glyn Knight officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service at the church. A private family burial will be held at Goodfield-Congerville Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery in Congerville.
