Johnette F. Smyth, a beacon of love and selflessness, passed away peacefully on January
15, 2025, in New Lenox, Illinois. Johnette's fiery spirit and nurturing heart touched many
throughout her 67 years of life.
Born on April 6, 1957, in Germany, to John Smyth and Phyllis Gustafson. Raised by her
extended family, Orlando and Mary Margaret Magni in Melrose Park, Illinois. Johnette
developed a deep bond with her cousins, particularly the late Kathleen Sue Nitti-Magni.
Her childhood was filled with the warmth of close-knit family ties, which laid the
foundation for the loving and devoted person she would become.
In June of 1978, Johnette married Darald Cornfield, and though their marriage later ended
divorce, it blessed her with her cherished children, Dolly Cornfield and Ryan (Kevin
Hansen) Cornfield. Her role as a mother was one she embraced with her whole heart
guiding her children with a blend of strength and tenderness that only she could provide.
Johnette's capacity for love was further multiplied with the arrival of her grandchildren,
Kaylee Koziorynsky and Kelsie Koziorynsky. She reveled in her role as a grandmother,
showering her grandchildren with affection and creating memories that will be treasured
forever.
Her siblings, Stefann Windhorst, Mike Smyth, Paul Smyth, Randy Garrett, Roberta Julke,
John Smyth, and several others with whom she had lost touch over the years, will
remember Johnette as a sister who always extended her kindness and support. Her many
nieces, nephews, cousins and friends were also recipients of her boundless love and care.
Johnette's interests were a reflection of her nurturing soul. She had a passion for crafting
and sewing, often creating beautiful pieces for her family and friends. Her love for reading
transported her to different worlds, while her enjoyment of scary movies provided thrilling
escapes. Above all, spending time with her adult children was her favorite pastime, as she
cherished every moment with them.
Those who knew Johnette will remember her as the epitome of love and selflessness. Her
gentle demeanor and unwavering support were a comfort to all. She fiercely loved her
family, and her absence will be deeply felt by those who were fortunate enough to have
known her.
As we bid farewell to Johnette F. Smyth, we celebrate a life lived with immense love and
kindness. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and all who were
graced by her presence. Her spirit, characterized by love and gentleness, will never be
forgotten.
Johnette's life will be honored on Saturday, January 25 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at Bauman
Family Funeral Home 5600 U.S. Route 34 Oswego, IL., where her family and close friends
will gather to share memories and say their goodbyes.

I remember the excitement when Randy found you and the rest of your family. He especially loved your weekly phone calls, as did I. You could always say things that would make both of us laugh, and we feel blessed to have known you even for such a short time.
