Johnnie Fulgham Gammill, 91, passed away on July 19, 2024 in Ackerman, MS. She was born February 2, 1933 to the late John R. Fulgham and Estelle Bright Fulgham.
Johnnie was the matriarch and grandmother who was always dependable whenever she was called upon and willing to help any way she could. She was always attentive at making each family member feel special and loved. Be it making their own hand-quilted blanket stitch by stitch or cooking their favorite food whenever they came to visit. She was a talented seamstress who enjoyed sewing and quilting. She also enjoyed gardening and had quite the green thumb. Johnnie led the music at her husband Geralds many churches where he preached. She loved singing Gospel music with her 7 siblings at any occasion when they were all gathered. She continued to love singing up until the end of her life here on earth. She was the definition of a virtuous woman who loved Jesus. She shared the Gospel any chance she had and touched many hearts while a resident at the Choctaw County Nursing Home in her later years. She is loved beyond measure and will be terribly missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Gammill; children Denny Gammill (Infant Son), Donna Ditta, and Beverly Hodges; and son-in-law, Joey Gentry.
She is survived by her daughters, Pam Gentry and Renee Kemp (Carl); grandchildren, Chad Moore, Lacey Hodges, Justin Hodges, Whitney Franks (Rodger), Mandy Holloway (Jeffrey), Hilary Blankenship (Tommy), Casey Conner (Sean), and Caitlin Polk (Doug); 15 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Jean Gammill and Sandra Tucker; nieces, Cynthia Berry and Margaret Odom (Tony); nephew, Rodney Gammill (Pam); and a host of other nieces and nephews.
Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, July 20, 2024 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, MS, with the funeral service immediately following in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Starkville.
