Mt. Croghan, SC – Mrs. Johnnie J. Steen, age 87, peacefully departed this life to be with the Lord on Saturday evening, July 12, 2025, at the Legacy of Hartsville.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Fairview Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Kyle Oliver and Reverend Sweet Jenkins. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM Friday, prior to the service at the church.
Born on September 27, 1937, in Chesterfield County, SC, Mrs. Steen was the daughter of the late Sam and Rosie Poston Jenkins. She was a retired employee of Mar Mac and was a faithful member of Fairview Baptist Church, where she actively participated in various ministries over the years. A highlight of her service was her commitment to preparing annual prisoner packets to share the love of Jesus. Mrs. Johnnie had a deep faith, with a passion for reading and studying God's word. She treasured her time spent with family, particularly her sister Ruby, with whom she shared a close bond.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Steen was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Steen; son, Sammy Steen; her sister, Thelma Smothers; brothers-in-law, Jack Steen and Bill Sims; sister-in-law, Julie Steen; granddaughter’s husband, Shane Lee Kearns; and grandson’s wife, Susan K. Allen.
Mrs. Steen is survived by her children, Tim Steen of Asheboro, NC, and Tammy (Billy) Allen of Mt. Croghan, SC. She also leaves behind a legacy of love through her grandchildren: Dewayne Allen, Marsha Kearns, Traci (Drew) Hayes, Trenton (Logan) Allen, Jada (Daniel) Hazlett, and Macie (Aaron) Sheehan; great-grandchildren: Kelsey Allen, Cale Nicholson, Kaitlyn Nicholson, Kade Kearns, Hank Hayes, Chance Allen, Chandler Allen, Hatcher Hazlett, Samuel Hazlett, Olivia Hazlett, Jonathan Hazlett, Ophelia Sheehan, Sullivan "Sully" Sheehan, Charlie Sheehan, and Lennon Sheehan; as well as her great-great-grandchild, Kehlani McFadden; and her sister, Ruby Sims of Mt. Croghan, SC, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
