Mr. Jenkins was born on February 25, 1953, in Kannapolis, NC, to the late Willie and Frances Gilmore Jenkins. He dedicated over 20 years of service as a retired employee of Essentra Products (Filtrona). In addition to his professional career, Roger was a certified nuclear fuel cells welder and spent many years as an auto mechanic and in small engine repair.

Above all, Roger's heart was committed to ministry. He accepted the Lord as his Savior on Easter Sunday, April 5, 1980, and began serving as a youth minister. Roger was highly respected by his family as their pastor. He was a devoted member of South Pointe Fellowship of Pageland and enjoyed attending and worshipping with his friends at Grace and Mercy Worship Center. His passion for witnessing and sharing God's word left a lasting impact on those around him. Roger was also a devoted fan of the Carolina Panthers and a former member of the Blue Kangaroos Band. Known for his trademark smile, he had a wonderful ability to bring laughter to others.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Jenkins was preceded in death by his late wife, Cynthia Darlene Jenkins; his brother, R.B. Jenkins; and sister, Shirley Jenkins, who courageously sacrificed her life in 1962.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Garner-Jenkins; his children, Michael D. (Shirley) Jenkins, Kellie (Dr. Tommy) Campbell, and Danielle Harris; as well as the children of his heart, Sherry Garner (Wayne) East, Sharon Garner (Doug) Gray, and Jamie Garner (Larry) Sanders.
