Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home Silas Creek Chapel - Winston-SalemMrs. Johnnie Mae McCorkle, 88, closed her eyes and opened them in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 14, 2025. She was born on February 16, 1937, in Gray, Georgia, to the late Mr. Johnny Phillips and Mrs. Mary Smith Phillips.
Johnnie Mae had a loving and caring soul. She deeply cherished her family and enjoyed all the memories made and shared together. She loved to travel, play cards, and she enjoyed watching baseball and football. She was married for 20 years to the late Willie Earl McCorkle, Sr. Together, they built a life full of happiness and love. Before his passing, Johnnie Mae and Willie were part of many social clubs in New Orleans, Louisiana, where they resided for many years.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in passing by a daughter, Daphne McCorkle, and a daughter-in-law, Janeen McCorkle.
Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Lisa A. McCorkle, Willie E. McCorkle Jr. (Denise), and Kevin McCorkle (Tammie); 11 grandchildren, Justin (Nina), Willie III (Fabienne), Robert, Trent, Taylor, Paige, Kevin Jr. (Richelle), Jamez, Timothy, Tierra, and Treasure; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, Joe Phillips; a sister, Gertrude Parker; and several nieces, nephews, family and friends.
There will be no formal services held in North Carolina. The family will have a service at Rhodes Funeral Home in New Orleans, LA, at 10:00 am, Thursday, August 28, 2025. Burial will follow at Providence Memorial Park in Metairie, LA.
Flowers in memory of Mrs. McCorkle may be sent to Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70125.
