Johnnie Dee Meyers, age 91, left this earthly home and entered the arms of Jesus on October 31, 2025. He was born on May 29, 1934, in Houston, Texas, to Alice Estelle Meyers and Henry Albert Meyers. He was the eldest of identical twins.
Johnnie is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Mary Jane Sonnier Meyers; his parents, Alice Estelle Adams and Henry Albert Meyers; his infant daughter, Annette Marie; his eldest daughter, Anita Lucille Lemaster; and his youngest brother, Henry Allen Meyers.
Johnnie grew up on Houston's east side and spent part of his childhood in Texas City before moving to New Caney, Texas. He graduated from New Caney High School in 1951. Following graduation, Johnnie joined the United States Navy in February 1952, serving on Midway Island during the Korean War, where he worked as a clerk. After serving two years, six months, and seven days, he received an honorable discharge. Shortly after returning home, Johnnie attended church with a friend at First Baptist Church of New Caney. There, he saw a young woman named Jane Sonnier singing and turned to his friend to say, "I'm going to marry that girl." Johnnie and Jane were married on December 30, 1955.
As a young man, Johnnie worked at the Houston Coliseum as a civil engineer. He helped prepare the arena for concerts, wrestling matches, circuses, and even froze and painted the floor for the Ice Capades. Later, he worked for the City of Houston as an A/C inspector until his retirement at age 50. He then went on to work for the Harris County Port Authority for about 10 more years before retiring again. Johnnie was a faithful member of Westfield Road Baptist Church while his children were young, later moving his family membership to Suburban Wood Baptist Church, where he served the Lord faithfully for many years. After 44 years of living on Folger Street in Houston, Johnnie and Jane sold their home and moved to Grangerland, Texas. Johnnie loved and thrived living the country life, often spending his days mowing his property with his John Deere tractor. The friendships Johnnie made in the 1950s and 1960s lasted a lifetime, and our families are still blessed to call each other family.
Johnnie was a loyal and dedicated friend, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and devotion that will live on through those who knew him. Johnnie is survived by his daughters, Alice Vincent (Jay) of Alvin, Texas, and April Meyers of Grangerland, Texas; his grandchildren, Cari Zeitler, Dennis Lemaster Jr., Melissa Cook, Jayne Vincent, and Abigail Vincent; great-grandchildren, Sabrina Swilley, Rebecka Lucas, Jennicka Zeitler, Kolby Cook, and Hannah Lemaster; and great-great-grandsons, Rowan Swilley, Nikola Swilley, and Eden Lucas, with Levi Lucas and Madeline Lemaster on the way. He is also survived by his brother, Jackie Meyers, as well as family, friends, and many sons and daughters by love.
