Johnny Neal Asbery

Johnny Neal Asbery, 80, of Woodbridge VA, passed away on May 8, 2022.
Johnny Neal Asbery was born in Coleman TX on July 28, 1941 to Benjamin Harrison Quinn II and Wilma Bernice Waldon. He grew up with his mother and stepfather, G.A. "Tommy" Asbery in Cortez CO where he attended school. Johnny married Gloria Jean Lemak on April 30, 1965 in Rio De Janerio, Brazil. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1961 and served in a number of capacities until he found his calling as a photo interpreter in the military intelligence field. He advanced thru his military career, served three tours in Vietnam, graduated from the Defense Intelligence College, and reached the rank of MGySgt. His final posting was that of Intelligence Chief of the Marine Corps, Headquarters, USMC. After 24-1/2 years, he retired from the Marine Corps and continued working in the intelligence field for an additional 32 years as a systems engineer / engineering scientist for Systems Planning Corporation, Decision-Science Applications, Inc, and The Boeing Company where he ultimately supported the National Geospatial Agency's InnoVision Directorate where he developed new imagery analysis methodologies. Johnny was a founder and past President of the Marine Corps Intelligence Association. He was a highly decorated Marine Corps combat veteran receiving multiple medals, ribbons, and citations that include: Meritorious Service Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal (Seven Awards), the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (Five Campaign stars), Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign with Year Device.
Johnny Neal Asbery is preceded in death by his loving wife, Gloria Jean Asbery; his son, Richard Craig Asbery; his brothers and sisters: Randall Asbery, Faith Formby, and Robbin Asbery; and his parents, GA Asbery and Wilma Asbery.
Johnny Neal Asbery is survived by his sons: Michael Asbery (Joyce) and Thomas Asbery (Carla); his brother and sister: Harry Asbery (Sandy) and Beth Schad (Jack); his grand-daughters Kelsey, Katherine, and Kimberly Asbery; his daughter in-law: Teresa Asbery; and many nieces and nephews.
