Johnny Ray Baker

Johnny Ray Baker, age 67, of Northport, AL, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2024, at UAB Palliative Care in Birmingham. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel with Pastor Mike Griffin officiating and burial to follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the services.
Johnny is survived by his son Jonathan Baker; stepfather Lehman Pendley; stepmother Janice Baker; brothers: Dennis Pendley, Eric Baker, and Jeffrey Baker; sister Judith Baker.
Johnny was born February 08, 1957, in Chicago, Illinois to Jim Baker and Vera Nell Pendley. He moved to Berry, Alabama as a child and graduated from Berry High School in 1975. Upon graduation, he went to work at the P&M coal mines for 18 years. He then moved to Ox Bodies and worked with his stepfather Lehman Pendley and brother Dennis Pendley until retirement. After retirement, he enjoyed his life fishing as much as possible.
His love of fishing carried him all over the world to places such as the Amazon River, Jamaica, The Virgin Islands, Mexico, Australia, and Lake Okeechobee Florida. He fished almost every lake and river in Alabama, with favorites including Guntersville, Dream Lake, and any part of the Tennessee River.
Outside of fishing, his hobbies included watching Nascar and attending Talladega twice a year with his friends, cooking, and traveling. He became a Christian late in life. One of his favorite activities was walking his dog, Ziggy, every day while listening to the Bible.
