Shortly after graduating Johnny met his future wife Betty and after a brief courtship they were married and began raising their family.

He spent over a year in Sparks Medical Center in Arkansas before coming home to continue to heal and try to get back to a normal life. He tried to go back to work for a short time before taking early retirement from OG&E. He loved working outside in his yard and always had a garden full of vegetables.
