Johnny Eugene Gibson, 77, of Albemarle died Friday afternoon, May 2, 2025 at his home.
A private family service will be held at a later date and officiated by Rev. Heather McIntyre.
Johnny was born April 29, 1948 in Anson County to the late Johnnie Cline and Mary Hildreth Gibson. He was a 1966 graduate of South Stanly High School and received his Bachelor's degree from Appalachian State University and Master's Degree from West Chester University. He was a retired teacher with Stanly County Schools and a member of Norwood First Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his children, Jay Gibson of Knoxville, TN, Amber Gibson Speight (Chip) of Oakboro, and his son by choice, Robert McKee of Asheboro. Johnny is also survived by grandsons, Jayson Gibson, Trey Speight, Dalton Speight and Drew Speight. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The ALS Association (300 Wilson Blvd. Suite 600, Arlington, VA 22209 OR at www.als.org) as Johnny's beloved daughter-in-law preceded him in death as a result of ALS.

Johnny was not only a neighbor for over 30 years but also a dear friend to my mother before her death & myself. He was always ready to help anyone in need. He encouraged so many children that he taught. Many who still visited & stayed in contact with him. He will be greatly missed.
