Johnny Mac Simpson, 86, of Morganfield, passed away on August 19, 2025.

Johnny Mac was a 1957 graduate of Sturgis High School and later earned his degree from Western Kentucky University. Upon graduation, he taught high school biology and coached football at Covenant Holmes High School in Covington, KY. He returned to Union County, where he continued teaching and coaching. Coaching football was a source of great pride for him.

Johnny Mac also worked for many years as a coal miner in Union County before returning to the classroom as a driver's education instructor at Earl C. Clements Job Corps.

A lifelong member of Sturgis Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Johnny Mac served faithfully as an elder, Sunday School teacher, and active supporter of the church's mission work. His love for the Lord and passion for sharing the gospel also led him to serve many years as a Gideon in the local camp and to participate in jail ministry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Brown and Nina Simpson, and two brothers, George B. Simpson and Robert "Bubber" Simpson.

Johnny Mac is survived by his beloved wife, Suzanne. Their marriage, which began in 1987, spanned 38 years and created a blended family and great joy. He leaves behind his children Wendy Thomas (Todd) of St. Louis MO; Jon and Greta Simpson of Tennyson IN; and Dru Greenwell (Paul) of Waverly. He is also survived by Heather Collins (Steve) of Marion, KY, and Chris Brown (Dani) of Franklin, TN. Collectively, the five children blessed him with 14 grandchildren, who lovingly called him "Granddad," and 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother David Simpson (Kelly) of Sturgis.

Johnny Mac loved his family, his community, and, above all, his Lord - who has now welcomed him home.

Funeral will be 11 AM on Friday August 22,2025 at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church @ 504 North Main Street Sturgis, KY. Rev. Curtis Franklin will officiate. Visitation will be 9 AM until service time at the church. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery in Clay, KY. Memorial contributions can be made to: Cumberland Presbyterian Church (Legacy Fund) 504 North Main Street Sturgis, KY 42459 or St. Anthony's Hospice 2410 South Green Street Henderson, KY 42420
