SCHUHMANN, PAUL J., 79, died October 10, 2025.

He was a photographer for The Courier-Journal and The Louisville Times for 30yrs. After that he worked with Louisville Metro government. He was known for his quirky sense of humor. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from WKU. He began the Schuhmann Student Publications Scholarship in his wife's name. He won two Pulitzer Prizes for his work and a Southern Photographer of the Year award. He is a member of the Atherton High School Hall of Fame. A lover of live theater, he volunteered at The Kentucky Center and Actors Theater of Louisville. He was also a founder of the Upper Highlands Neighborhood Association.

He was preceded in death in by his beloved wife of 38 years, Ellen Bennett Schuhmann, in 2010.

He is survived by children, Robin (Scott) Stanton and Matthew (Kristin) Schuhmann; grandchildren, Caroline, Annabelle, and Luke Schuhmann and Edwin and Maryellen Stanton; and brothers, Phillip and Alan.

Visitation will be 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm on Friday, October 17th, 2025, at Highlands Funeral Home, 3111 Taylorsville Road, with private burial at Calvary Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Schuhmann Scholarship, c/o WKU, 1906 College Heights Boulevard, Bowling Green, KY 42101.

Paul lived a couple of blocks from me in the Highlands. I met him on a couple of occasions and he was a very nice and kind gentleman. May he rest in the arms of Jesus, forever.
