Johnny Ray Mooring

PENDLETON, NC - Johnny Ray Mooring passed away on July 6, 2025, at ECU Health Center in Greenville, North Carolina, following a brief illness. Born on June 1, 1962, in Creswell, North Carolina, to parents Lillie and Billy Mooring, he was 63 years old at the time of his passing.
Johnny dedicated his life to his craft, building homes and additions with a passion that was evident in every project he undertook. His work was not just a profession but his favorite hobby, as he was always finding new projects to tackle, even when not officially on the job.
He had a deep love for the outdoors, where he found joy and solace, particularly through his favorite pastime of fishing. Whether on a river, lake, or pond, Johnny cherished the tranquility and adventure that fishing brought him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillie and Billy Mooring; his brother, Eddie Mooring; stepdaughter, Sierra Terry; brothers-in-law, Danny Martin and J.W. Gray; and nephew, Phillip Bryant.
Above all, Johnny loved his family deeply. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Erica Mooring and life partner Ricky of Greenville, NC, and Melissa Mooring of South Carolina, and his son Brandon Mooring and wife Erin of Columbia, SC. He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Eli, Braiden, Brielle, Marielle, and Elise. Johnny is also survived by his sisters, Libby Mooring of Pendleton, NC, and Julie Bryant and life partner Randy of Newsomes, VA; and his brother, Wayne Mooring and wife Peggy of Chocowinity, NC. Johnny's nieces Tessa, Cassie, Kelly, and Ashley as well as his nephew Wayne will fondly remember Johnny. Numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, and friends will also miss Johnny deeply.
A graveside service celebrating the life of Johnny Ray Mooring will be held Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Severn Cemetery, Hwy 35, Severn, North Carolina.
