Johnny William Wright, Jr.

February 5, 1930-April 25, 2023

Johnny William Wright, Jr. 93, passed away April 25, 2023. He was born February 5, 1930 in Centerville, Ia to Johnny W. Wright, Sr and Hazel Davidson. His family moved to Davenport where he met the love of his life, Evelyn Mae Gripp. They were married on November 11, 1948.

Johnny was a long time member and Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge #298 in Davenport. He enjoyed 52 years as Head of Security at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds. He served as a Prison Transporter for the Scott County Sheriff's Office. He retired as a truck driver for Roto Rooter. He was CoFounder of the Scott County Rescue Unit. Johnny enjoyed woodworking in his garage, collecting Hot Wheels and antique toys.

Johnny was a loving husband, great father, caring grandfather, and a good friend. He is survived by his Daughters; Diane Funk, Linda Ashby, Mary Wright, Donna (Bill) Smith. Sons; Ray (Joy) Wright, Ron (Marcy) Wright. 20 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. Sisters Dorthy Dreher and Rosamary Schwerdtfeger. He is preceded in death by his Wife Evelyn, his Son David and his 2 Son-in-Laws; Greg Ashby & Steve Funk.
