Joi Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McMurrough Funeral Chapel - Libertyville on Jan. 14, 2026.
Joi Anne Johnson, 64, of Libertyville, passed away peacefully at her home on January 11, 2026. A lifelong learner and advocate, Joi earned a teaching degree and a Juris Doctor from Loyola University of Chicago. She dedicated her professional life to both the legal industry, where she served as a tireless advocate for the underprivileged and special education paraprofessional. Beyond her career, Joi was a gifted musician whose violin echoed her passion for life. She was a fixture in the Chicago blues scene, finding great joy in the city's live performances. Known for her magnetism, Joi never met a stranger; her sweet disposition and radiant smile could light up any room. Even as she faced the debilitating effects of Multiple Sclerosis later in life, her warm glow never faded. Joi brought an abundance of love into this world, and her presence will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
Joi is survived by her brother Alan (Nancy); her nephews Ryan (Emily Schumann) Johnson and Anthony Johnson as well as multitudes of friends especially Julie, Karen and Fr. Val. She is preceded in death by her parents Alvin and Joanne Johnson.
Funeral services for Joi will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the National M.S. Society https://www.nationalmssociety.org/ would be greatly appreciated.
