Jon Ericson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Daneri Mortuary - Jackson on Dec. 29, 2025.
Jon Martin Ericson passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2025, in Fiddletown, CA, at the age of 60. He was born on December 9, 1965, in Sacramento, CA, to Gerald and Jane (Hendricks) Ericson. Jon graduated from the US Air Force Academy with distinction, excelling in both academics and leadership. He went on to serve a long and honorable career in the US Military, ultimately retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Throughout his service, Jon was known for his dedication, integrity, and commitment to those he led. After leaving the military, he transitioned seamlessly into civilian life and continued his professional journey as an engineer. In this role, he worked in the Department of Water Resources flood operations for the state of California, where his expertise and problem-solving skills significantly impacted local communities, ensuring the safety and well-being of countless residents. Jon and his wife, Karin, made their home in Amador County, where they created a warm and supportive environment for their family. Together, they raised their two children, instilling in them the values of hard work, perseverance, and service to others. Jon took great pride in watching his children grow and pursue their own dreams, especially as they followed in his footsteps. Alayna embraced the skies and became a skilled U.S. Air Force pilot, while Kellen chose to make a difference on the ground as a civil engineer-each reflecting Jon's example in their own unique ways. Throughout their 28 years in the county, Jon also found joy in spending time outdoors, often accompanied by his beloved German shepherds, who were his loyal companions on many adventures and quiet moments alike. Jon is survived by his wife, Karin Ericson of Fiddletown, CA, and his children, Kellen (Lauren) Ericson and Alayna Ericson. Friends and Family are invited to attend a celebration of life on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Amador Cellars in Plymouth, CA. A private interment will take place at the Fair Oaks Cemetery.

I met Jon at the health club in Rancho Cordova where I worked. Just found out about his passing a few weeks ago and am so sad. There has been so many members asking about his whereabouts and sadly we had to tell them. He was the nicest guy in the world, always smiling, always happy. He is going to be truly missed. Sending big hugs to the family.

Lt Col Jon Ericson, Commander, TEAM LAX

I had the privilege to work for Jon as his Executive Officer during our deployment to Los Angeles International Airport after 9/11 and we became fast friends for the next 25years. He was someone that you wanted to be around and make him proud because his leadership style was completely his own. He definitely made me and the people he graced better airman, leader's and humans. My thoughts and Prayers are with Jon and his family today and well into the future.

(Note: If you zoom in on the photo where Jon's back is to you and look at the upper left corner of the bulletin board, you will see the TEAM LAX Chain of Command, attached here)

Godspeed,
Michael Dugas, (Retired) Colonel, USAF

I worked with Jon over the past five years and I will miss his positive, appreciative and can-do approach to getting things done. I will also miss reminiscing with him about our shared experiences as USAFA grads, Support Group Officers and our children following in that service to our country. Truly a shining example and brother in arms!

So sad to hear of Lt. Col. Ericson's passing. An outstanding officer, leader, and mentor. He had a great sense of humor and made me laugh so hard that I couldn't stand up straight. When it was game time, he was all business and a wealth of knowledge. Rest in peace, my old friend. I'll miss you very much. Oscar Soto (Retired)

We love and will miss Jon! So very sorry for your loss Karin, Kellen and Alayna. We worked together at Vandenberg AFB. Your Dad was a wonderful friend and our son Adam´s godfather. He was waiting in the hospital while Adam was born, and was first in the room after his birth. We remember his surprise when he saw Adam, naked under the incubator light and said, "I didn´t know babies were born with `everything already perfectly formed!" We adored Jon and loved laughing with him! Love, Gil and Lorrie

With our limited days in the office, Jon was the person I saw every week. He was always kind and soft spoken. We talked about our retirement plan less than two weeks of losing him unexpectedly. We miss you Jon

I was a fellow member of the aeromedicine team and eventually his medical commander. Jon was my best officer, performing with excellence . When I deployed to Middle east in 2003 in support of Iraqi Freedom, I wanted Jon as my deputy.
I was surprised when he called me last month. We had a long chat and shared memories. He was so proud of his daughter following in his footsteps as an Air Force pilot. I will always remember Jon's love for life.
