Jon 'Humpty' Humblet, 63, of Birnamwood, died unexpectedly of natural causes on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at his home.
Jon was born on June 11, 1961, in Wausau. He was the oldest child of Edmund and Shirley (Helf) Humblet.
Jon dairy farmed for many years and worked in construction, at his own company, JAR Construction. He enjoyed making maple syrup, bowling, playing golf and shooting pool. Humpty's true passion was deer hunting.
Jon got interested in farming at an early age, and by the time he graduated from high school, he was working the dairy farm that was homesteaded by his great grandfather, George Helf. Through the years he followed in the footsteps on the farm of his grandfather, Leo Helf, and uncle, Merland Helf. Eventually, he also bought the farm on the north side of Highway N from Peter Suwyn. While still farming, he started getting involved in concrete flatwork and block laying, which culminated in forming a LLC in 2000 with his friends Ron and Al Bauch – this became JAR Construction, LLC. He sold the cows two years later to focus the construction company, and semi-retired a few years ago. While doing all of this, he found time to bowl, golf, and, of course, go hunting. He gave up bowling first, and his bowling ball now resides in a place of honor at the bottom of his pond. He golfed up until Parkinson's affected his ability to hit a drive, but he still putted when the opportunity presented itself. The Parkinson's could not stop him from hunting; however, and on opening day of bow season in 2023 he shot one of the best bucks of his life. The wonderful neighbors and friends surrounding him were a huge blessing and the family couldn't be more grateful for everything they did for him.
Jon is survived by his mother, Shirley; siblings, Faith (Patrick) Hunt, David (Marta) Humblet and Sheila Humblet; nieces and nephew, Amanda (Robert) Koss, Jeremy (Amy) Hunt, Ella Humblet and Marina Humblet; great nieces and nephews, Noah, Lucy, Eli, Zoe, Quentin, Olivia and Evie. Humpty is survived by many other relatives and friends.
Jon was preceded in death by his father Ed, uncle Merland Helf, and aunts Wilma Helf, Mavis (Harold) Nauta, and Dolores (Ervin) Fleischmann.
A visitation will be held from 1PM until 4PM on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Birnamwood. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery immediately after the visitation. Following the burial there will be a celebration of Jon's life at Wildlife Campground. In honor of Jon, golf attire is encouraged.
