Jon W. Kumbera, 68, Wausau, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born October 24, 1957, in Wausau, son of the late Eugene and Angeline (Boerke) Kumbera. On July 30, 1983, he married Kathryn Kayhart in Wausau.
Jon worked in sales and was known for his strong work ethic and gift of gab. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, working in the yard and watching the birds. Jon was very handy and took great pride in building his family home with the help of relatives. He loved woodworking and collecting antiques, always appreciating craftsmanship and history. When his sons were young, Jon rarely missed their soccer games, track meets, and other sporting events, cheering them on with pride. He was also a devoted fan of the Milwaukee Brewers, Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Kumbera; sons, Kyle and Jared Kumbera; sisters, Mary Jo Tilton and Jeanne Coppins; brother-in-law, Tom Kayhart; uncle, Robert Kumbera; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and father and mother-in-law.
Visitation will be Friday, March 13, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau.
The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at Aspirus Wausau Hospital for their kind, compassionate care given to Jon.
