Jon Christian Schwenzer of Annapolis, MD, formerly of New York City, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Washington, DC passed away May 25, 2025. Age 75. Beloved partner of the late Dr. Terry Chastek. Loving brother of Karen McEachen (Ron) and Kristine Parsons (the late Lex). Devoted "Uncle Jonny" of Cole and Tyler Parsons, Kathryn McEachen Gaillard (Luke) and Molly McEachen McClain (Kevin). Dear great uncle to Annabel, Ramona and Gus.
Jon, a proud UNC Chapel Hill graduate and Tar Heels basketball fan, was a former Journalist and Senior Field Producer for FOX News, New York, covering everything from space launches to presidential inaugurations. Prior to that, he worked with Arlington Telecommunications (ARTEC) which built the first cable television system in Washington, DC. According to co-workers, "Jon was instrumental in accelerating the growth of the cable television industry through his insight, tenacity, humor and solid advice. Jon was an active member of The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists (NLGJA), launching its South Florida chapter and serving as its president for several years.
A political news and social media guru, Jon's Twitter posts, after he retired, caught the eye of NYTimes columnist David Pogue who quoted Jon seven times in his book, "The World According to Twitter."
Jon was an avid gardener in his later years and had fond memories of his times at Camp Miller, KAPPA SIGMA Fraternity, and with his dear friends in DC and NYC.
