Alva “Al” F. Schwenzer, 73, of Indianapolis passed away on October 17, 2024. He was born in Indianapolis on December 8, 1950, to his parents Carl W. Schwenzer IV and Faye Henrietta (Sutton) Schwenzer. Al graduated from Lawrence Central High School. Upon graduating, Al bravely enlisted in the United States Army. He dutifully served his country for 3 ½ years. Al was a dedicated “jack of all trades” in the grocery industry for many decades. He served many roles for many different stores such as: O’Malia’s (10 Years), Kroger (4 years), MARSH (28 years), and recently Meijer (7 years). Al married the love of his life, Nikki (Keener) Schwenzer, on October 6, 1973. Together they spent 51 years building a beautiful family and creating precious memories that will forever be cherished.
If you knew Al, you probably remember his love of a good cup of coffee, Motown music, Euchre, doing yard work, bowling, and fishing. He enjoyed taking yearly anniversary trips to Shipshewana with his wife, Nikki. Most of all Al loved to be around his family and especially his grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as “Papaw Owl.” He enjoyed many get-togethers surrounded by extended family members and friends.
Al will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to experience his kindness.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 51 years, Nikki Schwenzer; his beloved children, Ryan (Brittany) Schwenzer, Lee Schwenzer, and Kelly (Joshua) Taylor; his grandchildren, Avery, Baylor, Journi, and Kolbee; and his siblings, Bill Schwenzer V, Lisa Thomas, Tom (Ann) Schwenzer, and Phoebe Schwenzer.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Carol Smith; and his sister-in-law, Barbara Schwenzer; and his nephew, Glenie Smith.
