Mr. Jon Franklin Swoap, 83, passed away with his family by his side on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2025.
A celebration of life will be from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 21, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St., Joseph. Burial in Spring Run Cemetery. Any memorial contributions in Jon's memory may be directed to a charity of choice.
Jon was born on Feb. 7, 1942, to Francis Swoap and Mary Jane (Monger) Henchel in Benton Harbor. He graduated from St. Joseph High School and starting working for Coca-Cola Co. Jon then started working at Pepsi before eventually retiring from Mid County Lawn and Garden. On Oct. 26, 1963, Jon married the former Sharon Kay Swoap and they celebrated 60 years of marriage before Sharon passed away in 2024.
Jon never met a stranger and always took any opportunity to chat with anyone about anything. He enjoyed woodworking in his free time and helped out at Brookside Nursery during his retirement.
Jon will always be remembered by his children: Jon Swoap and Kellie (Steven) Tilly; grandchildren: Khrystal (Brad) Weaver, Zachary Garrett, Mitchel Garrett, Chynah (David) Blankenship, Hillary (Patrick) O'Sullivan, Ally Benton and Gage Benton; great-grandchildren: Kallie Weaver, Baylor Weaver, Ben Blankenship and Bonnie Blankenship; and brother, Anthony "Tony" (Bonnie) Swoap and their two children, Tony and Gary.
Jon was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon; daughter, Bonnie Swoap-Benton; and parents.
