Jon Young Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. - Woodbridge on Oct. 1, 2025.
Jon Mallory Young was born on May 18, 1959 in Blackstone, VA to the late Gladys H. Young. Since childhood, he was known for his humor and lighthearted nature, always finding joy in making others smile. As a child, he collected comic books, baseball cards, and friendships wherever he went, making relationships that would last a lifetime.
Jon attended Nottoway Senior High School, graduating in 1977. In 1978, he joined the United States Air Force, where he spent 20 years serving his country, rising to the rank of Technical Sergeant as he worked towards building a life for himself. He was disciplined and hardworking, giving all tasks his full effort and heart. During his time in the Air Force, he was awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and Air Force Commendation Medal.
While stationed in the Philippines, he met and married Emily, the love of his life and his wife of 34 years. After completing his tour there, they moved to Germany. His final duty assignment brought them back to the Washington, D.C. area, where he worked at the Pentagon. In 1997, their daughter was born and she captured his heart immediately. She was Daddy's Little Girl from day one. He retired from the military in January of 1998 and began his career as a civilian federal employee.
From May of 1998 until June of 2021, Jon worked for the FBI as an Electronic Technician for the Technical Response Unit. Jon was willing to do all he could to support the mission and his coworkers, and took pride in his ability to find solutions to problems. When he didn't know the solution to a problem, you could bet that he knew someone who did. Through his time in the military and later in his career, he traveled extensively across the United States and abroad, yet Virginia always remained his beloved home.
Jon will be remembered for his ever-present smile and contagious laugh. He never took life too seriously and always reminded people to be thankful for the moments they were living. Loyal, kind, and generous, he gave freely of his time and heart to family and friends alike. He was always ready with a joke and witty comeback, bringing joy to everyone around him.
A devoted fan of Washington, D.C. sports teams, he never missed a game - no matter how badly the season was going. His loyalty survived even the roughest years, and that's saying something. Jon enjoyed golfing, reading, and doing puzzles. He cherished time spent with loved ones, especially around the table for card games or word games, moments that reflected his playful spirit and deep love for connection with people. Jon was a dedicated husband and father and his family was his greatest pride and joy. Family was the center of his world, and his legacy of love and laughter will live on within them.
Jon is preceded in death by his mother Gladys and his brother Terence.
Jon is survived by his wife Emily and daughter Rikki (Corbin Ford) and his seven siblings: Hollie Hudson, Rudy Young (Gale Harvey), Robert Young, Geri Bell (Calvin Bell), Michael Young, Jackie Young, and Fred Young (Stacy Blackwell). He leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews including Jason, Twan, Raina, Ericka, Darrick, Mike P., Kobe, and Maeke as well as a number of "bonus daughters": Jenny, Natalie, Marcela, Jasmine, and Maddie.
His memory lives on in the hearts of his extended family and many friends that he considered to be family. He made a long-lasting impression on everyone he met. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will remain a guiding presence in the lives of those who loved him.
