Jonathan Lamar Thomas
Jonathan Lamar Thomas was born May 21, 1957, to Billy Clyde Thomas and Betty Lou Alsabook Thomas in Roanoke, Alabama. He passed away peacefully in his sleep, July 25th, 2024, at the age of 67.
Johnny Thomas grew up in Clewiston, FL with his parents, sisters (Carol, Teresa, Gloria) and brother (Chris). After relentlessly chasing Becky for five years, he married his high school sweetheart in 1976. They had three beautiful children (Jonathan, Benjamin and Joy) and moved to Tallahassee shortly after, where he pursued a career as an entrepreneur in construction and demolition. As a dear friend recently said, "He was the first guy to get his hands dirty and the last guy to put his shovel down."
His ability to connect with people from all walks of life was unparalleled, making every person he encountered feel valued and understood. Johnny never met a stranger and loved making others smile. Through 18 years of children's ministry, many children loved Mr. Johnny and remembered his balloon animals, crazy magic tricks and his outlandish object lessons.
He loved his family dearly and being G-daddy is what made his life complete. His voice blessed all who heard him sing. Spreading the love of God through countless mission trips, building churches and ministering to children all over the world were his favorite adventures.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, laughter and countless memories that will be cherished forever.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Billy and Betty Thomas.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Becky Thomas, Mother-in-law and Father-in-law, Bernard and Dessie Browne. His children Jonathan (Tatum) Thomas, Benjamin (Ashley) Thomas, Joy (Derrick) Dunlavy. 13 Grandchildren; Dalten (Debora), Easton, Havah, Caleb, Caden, Luke, Brayden, Adelynn, Kiersten, Mae Mae, Elias and Bennett. 2 great grandchildren, Emma Grace and Birdee. His siblings Carol (Keith) Thompson, Chris Thomas, Teresa Butzer, and Gloria (Chris) McGee. 2 sister-in laws, Ginger Peddicord (Steve) and Judy Ruiz. As well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.
