Jonathan Wright affectionately known as "Uncle Joe", age 91, a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on Monday, December 5, 2022, following a period of declining health.
Jonathan was born in the District of Haddington, Parish of Hanover, Jamaica West Indies to the late Thomas and Edith Wright. He was the sixth of ten children born from this union. Four brothers and three sisters predeceased Jonathan.
Jonathan was educated at Waterford Hill All Age School and after went on to learn the trade of carpentry. Seeking to provide a better life for himself and his family, he began working temporarily in the United States doing what was known as farm work. Eventually, he obtained permanent status in the United States.
After migrating to the United States, Jonathan resided in Poughkeepsie, New York, with his best friend, Dunn. He worked as a custodian at the Culinary Institute of America in Poughkeepsie until his retirement. Due to his declining health, Jonathan relocated to New Jersey with his sister, Phyllis and subsequently to Hartford with his son, Eugene.
Jonathan possessed a great demeanor; he was strong, hardworking, loving and gentle. He loved his family and was deeply devoted to them. Jonathon also enjoyed times of solitude. He had a love for playing dominoes, gardening, yard work and cooking.
Jonathan leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Eugene Wright (Moureen), Adrian Wright and Vanessa Frank (Errol); sisters, Asverga Wright and Phyllis Grey; grandchildren, Sasha, Niguel, Dadrian, Andrea, Crysta and Connor; great grandchildren, Kehmani, Keshantae, Adrian and Rylee. A special caretaker, Hyacinth Wright. Several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends further survive him.
Although Jonathan will be missed, he will forever remain in our hearts.
