Lillian Cross Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Howard K. Hill Funeral Services - Bloomfield on Mar. 5, 2026.
Lillian Mae Carter Cross May 23, 1926 - February 18, 2026

Lillian Mae Carter Cross was born on May 23, 1926, in Daytona Beach, Florida, to Bill C. Carter and Manervia Jones. She was a twin-her brother Leonard Carter passed away at birth, a tender part of the family's story that remained with them always.

She grew up in a large and loving family alongside her siblings: Christine Dorothea Carter Robinson Morris, Evelyn Carter James, John Thomas Carter Sr., Dorothy Mae Carter Swift, and Narcissus Carter. She also shared family ties with her older siblings: Mamie Lee Carter, Annie Lee Carter, Tossie B. Carter, Bill Carter Jr., Bessie B. Carter, Rosa Lee Carter, and David King Jones.

Lillian has been preceded in death by her husband, Virgilio Cross and all of her siblings with the exception of her beloved sister, Evelyn Carter James, who survives her.

For many years, Lillian was lovingly cared for by her devoted niece, Evelyn (Timothy) Carter-Williams, affectionately known as "Rose" of Windsor, Connecticut. Their bond was deep, steady, and filled with mutual affection.

Lillian was also preceded in death by one niece, Juanita Robinson, and one nephew, Charles Carter.

She is survived by 13 nieces, 5 nephews, and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews who carry forward the family's legacy and the memories of her long, meaningful life.

As a young woman, Lillian moved north and made her home in Hartford, Connecticut, where she lived for many decades. In 1952, she married Virgilio Cross, beginning a chapter marked by companionship and enduring family bonds.

Lillian's life-spanning nearly a century-reflected quiet strength, independence, and the values instilled in her Southern upbringing. She will be remembered with deep love, gratitude, and respect by all who knew her.
