Jonathon Offutt

A memorial service honoring the life of Jonathon Offutt will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport, Louisiana. Visitation will follow the service at the funeral home.

Jonathon Michael Offutt was born November 2, 1982 in Plano, Texas to Charles Raymond Offutt and Patricia Thrash Offutt and passed away, Saturday, December 31, 2022 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Jonathon graduated from Bossier High School in 2001, received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alabama-Birmingham and earned a Master of Fine Arts in theater arts from the University of Minnesota. He worked as an Assistant Professor of Theatre at Bossier Parish Community College and University of Louisiana- Lafayette. An accomplished and passionate professional he was a finalist at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival for Scenic Design. There he was awarded the KCACTCF award of excellence for In The Blood.

Jonathon was a truly natural talent. From his scribbling sketches on scraps of paper to his stunning fine art oil paintings, he could create anything that could be imagined. He could take an empty stage and turn it into another world. The joy he brought through his art to his family, patrons and friends will live on after him.

Jonathon loved nature. The birds and squirrels, the occasional armadillo, the owls that he named for fun. Everyday he would sit outside and listen and watch for all of it to pass through his view.

Jonathan loved to laugh, his wicked sense of humor coupled with his impish grin and giggle made every single event, television show, movie, play, a pure joy. His commentary on any performance made you stifle yourself with laughter as not to attract too much attention. Being the center of attention was something Jonathon did very well. He always managed to find an audience, whether held captive or running for the hills.

His family and friends, Jonathon loved most of all. While there was often distance between himself and them, he always talked of old times and places. Remembering his youth growing up with his cousins, aunts and uncles, his little brother and big sister were his favorite.

Jonathon loved his pets: the ones thrust upon him even though he was allergic, and the ones picked up off the street and brought home right into the family. No pet was ever too far gone that he couldn’t love them and nurse them to health. His babies were his heart.

Jonathon is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Clifton O. and Venera R. Thrash; paternal grandparents, Henry F. and Mary E. Offutt; father-in-law, Alvis R. Nicklas; uncle, Henry F. Offutt, Jr.; and cousin, Joshua N. Offutt.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving spouse, Joseph Nicklas; mother, Patricia Offutt; father, Chuck Offutt and wife, Cristen Eustice; mother-in-law, Joyce Nicklas; sister, Nicole Adams and husband, Charlie; brother, Ryan Offutt and wife, Kelli; stepsister, Lydia Gibney; sister-in-law, Laura Nicklas; nieces, Kaylee Adams and wife, Sarah and Mackenzie Adams; R.J. Spearman and Olivia Offutt; nephew, Braden Adams; numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends and beloved dogs, Sadie, Buddy, James, and Lillie.

With his passing, the family is proud that Jonathon helped to save lives as he was a successful organ donor.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorials to be made to any animal rescue organization of your choice.
