Our beloved Jose H. Barrios, Jr, known as Joe, entered into rest on Friday, June 30, 2023, at the age of 53. He was a resident of the city of Poteet, TX where he lived with his family.
Joe was born on May 9, 1970, in Hondo, TX to Jesusa, and Jose Barrios, Sr., both of whom preceded him in death. At the time Joe was called home, he worked as a driver for Republic Services in San Antonio. He took much pride in his job and enjoyed talking to the residents he serviced in Poteet, Devine, and Charlotte. Joe was also a super fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He often donned shirts and caps of his favorite team. He loved listening to Spanish music, attending high school football games, making people laugh with his many sound effects, and spending time with his family. Joe was a member of the Poteet VFD Auxiliary and volunteered his time helping with fundraisers and community events.
Joe is survived by the love of his life and best friend, wife Camille, daughters Cathryn Rose, Araceli Barrios, Destinee Barrios (Joseph), grandchildren Angel and Julian, sisters Janie Gomez (Randy), and Beatrice Gomez (Ray). Joe also leaves behind nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, co-workers, friends and local residents, all who cherished his presence and adored his sweet smile.
Joe will be laid to rest in Hondo, TX. His services will be coordinated by Hondo Funeral Home where floral arrangements and sympathy cards can be taken. Joe will be carried by his pallbearers: friend and brother-in-law Freddy Perez, son-in-law Joseph Rodriguez, nephew Michael Gomez, brother-in-law Randy Gomez, brother-in-law Ray Gomez, and dear friend and co-worker Victor Elizondo. Joe's family would like to thank the Poteet VFD, Poteet EMS, Poteet Police Department, Pleasanton EMS, Joe's medical team at Metropolitan Methodist Hospital, Republic Services and the Poteet VFD Auxiliary.
Joe will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. We find solace knowing that Joe is in heaven, and we will see him again. Please keep Joe's loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this time of heartache and mourning.
A visitation will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., followed by recitation of the rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Hondo Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at St. John’s Catholic Church, followed by interment at Hondo Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Hondo Funeral Home.
