Jose Calvillo

Jose Alfredo Calvillo, 56, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at his family home in Aurora, Colorado, after a courageous year-long battle with cancer.
Jose was born on February 21, 1969, in Lakewood, California, to Alfredo and Isabel. He grew up in Topeka, Kansas, alongside his siblings. A proud graduate of Topeka High School's Class of 1987, Jose went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force for 12 years, earning an honorable discharge. After his military service, he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Security at Strayer University in 1997 then built a successful career in the private sector, working with companies such as First Data and Kaiser Permanente. He was admired by colleagues for his warmth, humor, and magnetic personality.
Jose found joy in life's simple pleasures. He could spend hours playing Command and Conquer, and he loved hiking in Evergreen, CO; particularly because its high elevation meant no snakes, his greatest fear. He never turned down a glass of red boxed wine or a tequila shot with family. The original girl dad, he always supported his daughters in pursuing their dreams.
Jose is survived by his loving wife, Bernadine; his children, Cristina, Ariel (Robbie), Aubrey, and Faith; his mother, Isabel; his siblings, Mona, Tania, Ronnie, Alfredo, Paula, and Paul; and his best friends, Scott and Will. He was preceded in death by his father, Alfredo; his stepfather, Paul; and his beloved dogs, Coco, Justice, and Boo.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 14, at 1 PM at Fairmount Funeral Home, 430 S Quebec St, Denver, CO 80247. Given his larger-than-life personality, a second memorial will take place in Topeka, Kansas, beginning with a rosary on Monday, March 17, at 6:30 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe, 201 NE Chandler, Topeka, KS 66616. Funeral services will follow on Tuesday, March 18, at 10 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe, with a reception afterward at Mater Dei Catholic Church, 1114 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, KS 66604.
Jose's legacy of kindness, humor, and devotion to his loved ones will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
