Jose Hernandez of Richmond Ca, passed away on January 17, 2024, at the age of 83 from complications with kidney failure.
Jose was born on November 6th, 1940, in San Salvador, El Salvador. Jose graduated High School in 1958. He was known to be very outgoing and having lots of friends during his teenage years. Given his passion for music upon graduation he started working as a DJ at a local radio station.
Jose was blessed with a loving family. He met his wife Carmen at the age of 16 in the year 1956 and they dated for about 10 years. Jose proposed in early 1966, their engagement lasted a few short months and were married on October 29, 1966. Their romance and deep love for each other endured for more than 68 years and was blessed with two wonderful children, 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Jose and Carmen moved from El Salvador to San Francisco in 1971. He worked in the hospitality business before retiring in 2009.
Jose lived vicariously through his grandchildren by spending time with them and always making them laugh. They brought him so much joy and happiness. Jose was an audiophile who loved the sounds of his favorite music and bands: Los Panchos, Los Diamantes, Cumbia and Salsa music, and Elvis. His eclectic record collection is endless. Like most music lovers, he couldn't help himself but to sing and dance, and he and Carmen showed off their moves on the dance floor.
Jose loved his holidays spent with family; paired with his favorite food and drink and of course music. Jose loved to make his friends and family smile and laugh with his quick wit and funny jokes. He was kindhearted, an amazing husband, father and grandfather and a loyal friend. He loved returning to El Salvador every year to spend time with his family and relax at the beach eating his favorite foods.
Jose is survived by his wife, Carmen; his son Jose Hernandez Jr.(wife Patty) and his daughter Xiomara Hernandez-Collins; (husband Jeff); and his daughter Marta Elena Morales; his grandchildren Anthony, Jonathan, Keani, Damian, Natalia, Rodrigo and Sophia and his great-grandchildren; Monte, Cameron, Santiago, Mia and Mason and his sister Coralia Hernandez.
A "Celebration of Life & Memorial Service" will be held on Thursday February 8th, 2024, from 4-9 pm., at Cypress Lawn Tiffany Chapel, 1370 El Camino Real, Colma 94014
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am on Friday February 9th, 2024- St. Peter's Catholic Church; 1200 Florida St. San Francisco, CA 94110. Burial to follow, Cypress Lawn Hillside Gardens 1701 Hillside Blvd., Colma, CA 94014
