Jose Gilberto Mercure

Jose joined his beloved wife Elviria Valdez Mercure peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. He is preceded in death by his parents Baltazar Mercure and Teresita Madrid, his siblings Jose Mercure, Antonia Aguilar, and Placido Mercure and his son Daniel Mercure.
Jose was born in Plaza Blanca to Baltazar Mercure and Teresita Madrid Mercure on March 19, 1937. He spent his childhood in the Chama Basin area with his family on the Ranch. Jose eventually left his little corner of happiness to join the Army where he was stationed in Korea from 1960-1963.
He moved his family to the Farmington area in 1969 to work on the Navajo Dam project. Where his family grew. He spent his younger years with his wife and children. After Elviria's death, he spent his time with his grandchildren. He loved being a grandfather and would go to games, races, and concerts to support them as they grew. When he became a great-grandfather, he spent his time traveling to visit the great-grandchildren. If asked he would say being a grandfather was good, but he loved being a great-grandfather. He made sure to attend recitals, games, and all school events.
His is remembered by is children Carmen Theresa (Billy) Hancock, Jose (Anita) Mercure Jr., Steven (Caralee) Valdez. Grandchildren Kristin (Ross) DeVargas, Brandi Hancock, Samantha (Jesus) Lopez, Brittany (Shahab) Jaberinasab, Jessica (Christian) Felkl, Dillon (Darby) Mercure. Great-grandchildren Peyton, Ziva, Kaylynn, Garin, Ronin, & Eliana. Siblings Isaac (Antonia) Mercure and Christella (Martin) Gallegos and sister-in-law Rose Mary Mercure.
