Chief Joseph Standingbear, also known as Jose Morales, Jr. of Thornton passed from this life on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at his home.

Visitation will be held from 11:00am - 2:00pm on Saturday, October 4, 2025 in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel.

A graveside service will be held immediately following visitation at Indian Paintbrush Hill Cemetery located at the family's home, with Chief Jessica Singing Buffalo and Clyde Baker speaking. 

Pallbearers will be Richard Lynn DeLeon, Joshua Patrick, Junior Domingo Morales, Jr., Joseph Morales, Danny Morales, Jesse Morales, Beau Marshall, and Haiden Patrick.

Honorary pallbearers will be Cornelius Morales, Clyde Baker, Hope Morales, and Montana Morales.

Joseph Standingbear Morales, born January 15, 1946, embodied the transformative power of compassion, inspiring countless individuals through his extraordinary capacity for empathy and kindness. From humble beginnings, he emerged as a visionary leader, illuminating hearts and minds with his radiant presence, and profoundly impacting lives by making everyone feel seen, heard, and valued. As a beacon of peace, love, and unity, he forged a lasting legacy, urging us to come together, grow, and support one another in love and harmony.

His passions for fishing, gardening, and capturing life's moments remain a testament to his vibrant spirit and zest for life. With a heart overflowing with kindness, love, and generosity, he leaves an indelible mark, reminding us to embody the same compassion, empathy, and kindness that defined his remarkable life. He leaves behind his love and his wisdom. His journey on the red road continues thru Heaven door.

He will join his parents, Amelia and Jose Morales, Sr.; brothers, Nicodemos Morales and Domingo Morales and niece, Rosemary Stokes at Heaven's gates.

His memory will continue through his immediate family to include his wife, Lonna Morales-Hickman; brother, Cornelio (Slim) Morales; nephews, Domingo Morales, Jr. and wife Donna, Danny Morales and wife Rachel, Jesse Morales and wife Sharon; niece, Elizabeth Holmes and Manny; nieces and nephews, Leroy Morales and Rachel, Robert Morales and Rachel, Rosanna Owen and Glen and Louise Parker, and numerous other nieces and nephews; stepchildren, Joshua Patrick and wife Stephanie, Amber Crisel and husband Rick; grandchildren, Hailey, Haiden, Christian, Vincent, Justyce, Daphney and one great-grandson, Erick; and also numerous cousins and friends.
