W. Richard Garrett Jr. passed away at his home in Granbury, Hood County, Texas on Monday, 8 September 2025 surrounded by family and friends.
Richard was the oldest son of W. Richard Garrett Sr., a native of Groesbeck, Texas, and Frances Jane Dougherty Garrett, a native of Dallas, Texas. He attended Grace Lutheran, OLGC and WH Adamson schools in Oak Cliff, Dallas, Texas. The family then moved to Arlington, Texas where he graduated from Arlington High School in 1962.
Soon after graduation he joined the US Army where he trained as an Aviation Mechanic for Single Engine Aircraft, Multi Engine Transport Aircraft and then completed Combat Training. His overseas base was Korea for more than one year and was then honorably discharged and he returned to Arlington, Texas.
He met Baudelia "Della" Trinidad, and they married on 3 December 1968. They were the proud parents of Vicki Gayle (b 1969) and Michael Scott (b 1977). This year would have been their 57th wedding anniversary. Richard had one granddaughter, Lil'Lee Moon (b 2014).
He continued his education at Tarrant County Junior College.
His career started as a teen at the Dallas Times Herald and the Dallas Morning News.
His post military work history included Dallas Aviation, Chance Vought/LTV, Brown and Root Comanche Peak Nuclear Plant, Brown and Root Bay City Nuclear Plant, Metal Weld, Cannon Sline Industrial, and The Brock Group. He traveled all over the USA for many years as a subject matter expert (SME).
Richard loved to read, watch and attend NASCAR races with family and friends, ride his Harley Davidson, watch football, and he loved a good meal. Richard had a dry and sarcastic sense of humor and always had a good story to tell.
Richard was proceeded in death by his mother, father, and a younger brother Claude Henry Joseph Garrett (1955-2000).
He is survived by his wife, one daughter, one son, five sisters, two brothers, one grandchild, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
