A devoted follower of Christ, Jose Serrano, 66, of Augusta, Georgia, passed away on January 1, 2025, after a two-year battle with cancer. He was born on February 15, 1958, in the Bronx, New York. Jose was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend who lived his life with faith, love, and service to others.
Jose was the beloved son of the late Jose Antonio Serrano and Ana Rivera Serrano. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen Serrano, and his children, who were his greatest pride and joy, Steven, Andrew, and Jonathan. He is survived by his cherished siblings: Ana Mercado (husband Jesus), Maribel Mangum, Eddie Serrano, Elizabeth Curtis (husband Reginald), and Tomas Serrano (fiancée Annie).
Jose and Kathleen were married for 46 years and together built a life filled with love and purpose. In 1979, they moved to Augusta, Georgia, to provide their children with a better life. Jose worked at EZ Go for 44 years as a dedicated Process Technician, exemplifying diligence and integrity in his career.
A man of many passions, Jose loved fishing with close friends who were like brothers. He also loved music, picnics, and peaceful walks in the park. However, music was not just a passion for Jose-it was a way of life. When he met Kathleen, he was performing in a rock band, capturing her heart with his talent and charm. As his faith grew, Jose redirected his musical gift to glorify God, sharing the gospel through music ministry. He found immense joy in using his voice and talents to minister to the homeless in Augusta, touching lives with songs of hope and praise. He not only ministered to the homeless but also played in various churches throughout the city, spreading joy and worship through his music.
Everywhere Jose went, he met people who became like family. His kind and welcoming spirit led many to call him "Dad," a reflection of the deep and lasting connections he made throughout his life.
Jose will be remembered for his kind heart, steadfast faith, and unwavering devotion to his family and community. His life was a testament to the love of Christ, and his memory will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A celebration of Jose's life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 1:00 PM Eastern Time at Pine Hill Baptist Church, 4233 Old Waynesboro Road, Hephzibah, GA 30815. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in his honor.
