Jose S. "Pepe" Shapiama
A Resident of Victory Centre, Bartlett
Visitation for Jose S. "Pepe" Shapiama, 83, will be held Sunday, March 2, 2025 from 12:00-4:00pm at Michaels Funeral Home & Cremation Care, 800 S. Roselle Rd., Schaumburg. Family and friends will gather again Monday, March 3, 2025 for prayers at 10:30am at the funeral home, proceeding to interment at Maryhill Cemetery, Niles.
Jose was born on October 5, 1941, in Lima, Peru, to Jose Sr. and Eugenia (nee Taipe). He passed away on February 21, 2025, at his home in Palatine, surrounded by his loving family. A talented artist, Jose had a passion for painting portraits and sketching. In the 1980s, one of his paintings of a soldier was proudly displayed at the Art Institute of Chicago. He was also an accomplished architect, specializing in the design of high-rise buildings and bridges at Sergeant & Lundy in Chicago. Every year, he looked forward to attending the Festival Peruano in Chicago, where he celebrated his heritage.
Adoring husband of 57 years to the late Dina Elida Shapiama-Prado; loving father of Tirza (and David Takacs), Deborah (Philip) Maggiore, Joel (Sylvia), Jese (Connie) and David (Lori); fond grandfather of Michael (Heather), Mercedes (and Mitch Gasparitis), Josh, Dina, Jessica, Samantha, Emily, Jese, Logan, Frankie Salvaggie, Marianna, Nico, and Brittany; loving great grandfather of Jade, Anakin, Giovanni, Gianna, Leo, Izabella, Killian and Kohen, Angel and Irys; dear brother of Carlos (Toni), Francisco (Teresa), Maria, Nelly and the late Magda Tejda, the late Mirtha and the late Johnny; beloved uncle and friend to many. He will be missed by all those whose lives he touched, especially Deborah and Philips' "kids", their dogs "Xtra" and "Chassy".
