Jose "Joe" Elogio Talachy, 86, passed unexpectedly. Jose was born in Ohkay Owingeh on September 14, 1939, to Amarante and Crucita Talachy and raised by grandparents Juan Bautista and Eleuteria Atencio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and siblings Joe Alvin Talachy (Helen), Stella Tanner (Les), Roy, Gary Talachy and Mary Gutierrez (Tim).
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Thelma, daughter Melissa (Mateo Romero), son Joseph (Beatriz), grandchildren Erik Fisher (Jordan), Vance (Susie), Povi, Rain, River Romero, Bernice, Aubrianna, Feliciana, Isabella, Aspen Talachy, and many nieces and nephews.
Family was most important to Jose. He participated in many pueblo feast days, the kiva and lived in the Pueblo of Pojoaque for the past 55 years. Jose served 6 years in the US Navy and retired from Los Alamos National Laboratory after 36 years. After retirement he traveled abroad with his wife. He enjoyed casinos, singing, drumming, fishing, hunting and traveling to Laughlin and Las Vegas. Jose was always happy, had a cheerful smile, and a little laugh. He was compassionate, loving, and kind. He offered guidance and wisdom that will be carried on by his loved ones. He was a nurturing father and a mentor for so many.
A Rosary will take place Friday, November 14, 2025, at 6 pm at Devargas Funeral Home in Espanola, NM.
Mass will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe in Pojoaque at 9:00 am. Burial to follow at Pueblo of Pojoaque Cemetery. Meal to follow burial at Buffalo Thunder Ballroom.
