Jose Tomas

Jose Fernando da Fonseca Tomas, age 60, passed away on February 15, 2026. He was born on May 17, 1965 in Touroes, (Leiria District) Portugal. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manual Agostinho Tomas and Maria Alice Da Fonseca Tomas.

Jose completed his elementary education in his home country, Portugal and had a passion for working with machines. Establishing a new life in the United States, he perfected his trade as a Master Diesel Technician. An avid sports enthusiast, he was a devoted fan of Sport Lisboa Benfica soccer team and loved his New York sports teams. An avid hunter, he enjoyed spending time in nature, and he loved nothing more than his home country, his family and spending time with friends sharing good food and laughter.

He is survived by his three children, Phillip, Madeleine and Monica and their mother, Maria Teresa Tomas. He also leaves behind his beloved brother, Joao Tomas (Judite), his nephew Joao Tomas Jr., along with aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will surely remember and dearly miss his kindness, his warmth and his noble spirit.

Flowers are gratefully accepted. For those who have asked about other ways to honor José's memory, donations may be made to the National Neutropenia Network; to Madeleine's medical care and upcoming surgery fund - something José cared deeply about and was devoted to - or toward Monica's education. José worked tirelessly to provide for his children, and our family is sincerely grateful for your love and support during this time.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 20th at McMahon, Lyon & Hartnett Funeral Home at 491 Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains from 4:00 - 8:00 PM. The Mass of Christian burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church at 11 Lawton Avenue in Hartsdale, NY on Saturday, February 21st at 9:30 AM. Cremation will follow and Jose's remains will be transported, as per his wishes, for burial with his parent's in his country of birth. The family extends their sincere thanks for the expressions of care and sympathy.
