Jose E. Vera Jr., 61, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Regency Heritage Care Center in Somerset, New Jersey.
Born on January 8, 1964, in Brooklyn, New York, Jose was the beloved son of Jose and Mary (Kilgore) Vera Sr. He made his home in North Brunswick, where he resided for the past 25 years.
Jose worked as a dedicated field technician for Verizon in New York City for 35 years. Outside of work, he was known for his love of sports: especially cheering on his favorite teams, the New York Mets, New York Jets, and New York Knicks. His enthusiasm for the game was infectious, and he never missed an opportunity to talk baseball or football with family and friends.
Jose's smile was truly enlightening; it could brighten any room and lift the spirits of everyone around him. His joyful presence, quick wit, and kind heart made people feel seen and loved. He was a man of faith who cherished his family deeply, especially his grandchildren, who brought him endless joy and happiness. He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Vera Sr.
Jose is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Ledesse Vera; his mother, Mary Vera; his children, Anais Vera, Sampson Leon and Sigourney Leon; his brothers, Wilbert Vera and Danny Vera; and his nine cherished grandchildren. He will also be fondly remembered by his many cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2025, from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at Gleason Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick, NJ 08902. A funeral service will begin at 5:30 PM at the funeral home.
In keeping with the family's wishes, flowers are kindly omitted. Memorial contributions in Jose's name may be made to Zarephath Christian Church at www.zcc.live/give.
