Georgia Lambros Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Georgia Lambros, 78, of Cranbury, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on October 18, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Manhattan, NY, Georgia grew up in Elizabeth, NJ, where her parents ran E-Port luncheonette. At age nine, she relocated with her family to Patras, Greece, but returned to the U.S. to seek treatment for Georgia's undiagnosed congenital heart defect. After residing at St. Basil's Academy, they settled back in Elizabeth.
Georgia met her husband, Alexander, while singing in the choir at St. Demetrios Church. They married two years later and raised their family in Maplewood, Piscataway, and later Cranbury. Despite ongoing medical challenges, including singular ventricle pulmonary stenosis and a ventricular septal defect, Georgia's resilience shone through. In 1986, she became the first person with children to undergo the experimental Fontan procedure at Mayo Clinic, Minnesota, defying expectations as the oldest living person with her condition to raise a family. Georgia marked this as her new birthday throughout the rest of her life.
A devoted homemaker, Georgia created a warm, nurturing home for her husband and children. She volunteered at hospitals, supporting parents of children with congenital heart defects, and was an active member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, teaching Sunday School for over 47 years. She cherished trips to Greece to visit family in Patras and Neochori, Kefalonia.
Georgia was predeceased by her brother, Aristides Tsagaratos. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Alexander Lambros; their children, John (Kristina), Demetri (Elaine), and Anastasia Lambros; and six grandchildren, Constantine (Mary Beth), Jason, Alex, Basil, Sophia, and Alethea. Georgia's legacy of love, faith, and perseverance will live on in her family and community.
Visiting will take place from 10-11 AM on Wednesday, October 22nd at St. George Greek Orthodox Church 1101 River Road in Piscataway. The funeral service will begin at 11 AM and graveside services will follow at Van Liew Cemetery in North Brunswick. Please consider a contribution in Mrs. Lambros's name to St. George Greek Orthodox Church Sunday School 1101 River Road Piscataway NJ 08854 or Mended Little Hearts, an organization that provides help to patients and families with congenital heart defects.
