It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph Hernandez, who left us on May 6th, 2025. Joseph was a beloved husband, son, brother, nephew, and devoted father of six.
He was a man of honor, serving as a Correction Officer in Newark, NJ since Nov. 2004, where his dedication and bravery shone through every day. His commitment to his role went beyond duty-it was his passion and calling. He served his community with pride, integrity, and compassion, leaving behind a legacy of strength and resilience.
Above all, Joseph was a family man. His six children were his pride and joy, the light of his life. He embraced fatherhood with love and devotion, always putting his family first. His kindness, warmth, and infectious smile will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Joseph is survived by his wife Katherine, children Leonardo, Aiden, Isabella, Madison, Mackenzie, and Oakley, his mother Ana Corina (Paul) siblings Oscar (Melissa) Ana (Christopher), and many loving relatives and friends who will continue to carry his memory in their hearts. His spirit will forever live on through the lives he touched and the family he adored.
A celebration of Joseph's life will be held at Moriarty Funeral Home, located at 76 Park St. Montclair NJ, on May 13, 2025 from 3-7PM. A mass of Christian burial will be offered Wednesday May,14 2025 at 10AM at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church, 60 Byrd Avenue Bloomfield, NJ.
Family, friends, and colleagues are welcome to join us in honoring his legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Thomas the Apostle School, in his memory.
We will forever hold Joseph in our hearts. May he rest in peace.
