Joseph Anthony Airdo July 24, 1947 – November 3, 2025
Joseph Anthony Airdo passed away peacefully on Monday, November 3, 2025, following a brief but aggressive battle with bladder cancer. He was 78 years old.
Joseph was born on July 24, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, to Joseph Airdo and Lucy Airdo (née Dioguardi). He served his country as a member of the Army Reserve during the Vietnam War era. In the mid-1970s, Joseph relocated from Illinois to Arizona, where he would establish deep roots in the community of New River.
Joseph's proudest accomplishment was his ownership and operation of Jack Ass Acres, a gas and service station that achieved legendary status far beyond its humble origins. For two decades, the establishment served not only as a vital community business but also as a beloved neighborhood gathering place where Joseph, often accompanied by his extremely large Rottweiler Zeus, held court. The distinctive character of Jack Ass Acres attracted the attention of Hollywood, with the location featured in several major motion pictures including "Beyond the Law," as well as music videos such as Petra's "Beyond Belief," and numerous professional photoshoots. Joseph later transitioned the property into a souvenir, collectibles, and antiques shop, continuing his entrepreneurial spirit well into his later years.
A passionate collector and restorer of classic automobiles, Joseph could often be seen driving around New River in his beloved blue 1958 Chevrolet. He possessed an innate ability to make friends wherever he went and delighted in engaging in spirited conversations, particularly about the rich history of New River and the many colorful characters he encountered throughout his life. His enthusiasm for storytelling and his deep knowledge of local lore made him a treasured source of community memory.
Joseph was married to his wife, Pamela, since 1971. He is survived by his wife, Pamela Airdo; his son, Joseph John Airdo; his brother, Robert Airdo; and his sister, Philomena Jackson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lucy Airdo.
The family welcomes condolences and invites those who knew Joseph to share their memories and stories of a life well-lived and a man who touched so many in his community. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Joseph, please visit our floral store.
