In Loving Memory of Betty Marie ("Mormor") Bjerga Betty passed peacefully on Sunday, November 9, surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and devotion that touched all who knew her. She was the cherished mother of Roy, Susan (Louis), Nancy, and John (Nancy) whom she raised with Sigmund. She was preceded in death by her twin brother, Palmer (Bjorg), and her parents, Roy and Betzy. Betty's heart extended across generations as the proud grandmother of Lars, Claire, Caitlin, Catrina (Keith), Joshua, Ellen, Sandra, Eric, and Rob (Angela), and great-grandmother to many adored great-grandchildren. Born in Chicago, Betty began life alongside her twin brother, Palmer. As a young child, she moved with her family to Stavanger, Norway, before returning to Chicago after the war. There, she and Sigmund built their life together and raised their family. In 1992, Betty traded the snowy winters of Chicago for the sunshine and warmth of Phoenix, joining Susan and Louis, and later joined by Nancy. A true lover of life's simple pleasures, Betty could always be found with a cup of coffee in hand, often accompanied by a sweet treat from her own kitchen. She was a gifted baker whose Norwegian specialties, including lefse, fyrstekake, krumkake, other Christmas cookies, and her beloved Norwegian waffles, were shared with joy and love.
But above all, Betty's greatest joy was her family. She poured her heart into every moment with her children, from first child adventures with Roy, to happy coffee and cake outings with Susan, school day excursions with Nancy, and time spent with John and his horse. Her love only grew as her family expanded, enveloping every grandchild and great-grandchild in her gentle, unconditional care and love. Betty will be remembered by all who knew her as an angel on earth, and now, an angel in Heaven, watching over her family with the same love and light she shared throughout her life. Her eternal rest has begun, and those who love her can take comfort in knowing she is joyfully waiting for them in Paradise.
