Joseph Gomer Anding, a devoted family man and respected member of his community, was born on July 28, 1939, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He passed away peacefully at his residence in Opelousas, Louisiana, on January 3, 2026, at the age of 86.

Joseph dedicated a significant part of his life to serving as an automobile insurance adjuster, spending an impressive 40 years in this profession, with 35 of those years at State Farm Insurance. His work was characterized by his commitment to excellence and his desire to assist others, traits that extended into all areas of his life.

A longstanding parishioner of St. Landry Catholic Church, Joseph was deeply rooted in his faith and community. He was known for his unwavering dedication to his family and played a vital role in numerous home and property projects on the land he cherished. His hands-on approach and willingness to lend a helping hand illustrated his love and commitment to those he held dear.

Joseph was also a private pilot for 40 years, a testament to his adventurous spirit and keen interest in aviation. He relished the joy of flying, which added another layer of fulfillment to his life. His hobbies primarily revolved around spending time with his family and friends, creating lasting memories that will be cherished by all who knew him.

Throughout his life, one of Joseph's proudest accomplishments was the preservation of the Anding name and properties in Opelousas for generations to come. This legacy reflects his deep connection to his roots and his desire to leave a lasting impact on his family and community.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph Anding will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, Louisiana. Fr. Neil Pettit will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and interment will be held at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Opelousas.

Visitation will begin on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas beginning at 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday led by Deacon Dwayne Joubert in the funeral home. The funeral home will reopen on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jeannie Fruge’ Anding of Opelousas; sons, Joseph “Joe” Anding, Jr. and wife, Debra of Eunice; and Paul Anding and wife, Samantha of Lafayette; daughters: Kathleen Perrone and husband, Joseph of Clinton; Susan Anding and partner, Patti Hodges of Lafayette; Marice Robin and husband, John of Opelousas; Jeanne Herndon and husband, Brian of Marianna, Arkansas; brother, Al Anding and wife, Suzanne of Houston, Texas; sisters, Tessie Baston of Irvine, California; and Maricosa Dominguez of Miami, Florida. He is also survived by his 14 grandchildren: Christopher Perrone and wife, Brooke; David Perrone, John Perrone and wife, Kameron; Elizabeth Perrone Villavaso and husband, Stephen; Claire Leger and husband, George; Daniel Anding and wife, Rachel; Benjamin Anding and wife, Gwen; Taylor Verrett, Zachary Robin and wife, Taylor; Ashlynn Houser and husband, Dylan; Sloane Lantier, Waylon Anding, Isla Anding, and Colt Anding; 10 great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen Astor Anding and Claire Gomer Anding; and his first wife and the mother of 4 children, Nova Bertrand.

Joseph Gomer Anding will be remembered not only for his professional achievements but also for the love and warmth he brought into the lives of everyone around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him.
