Joseph A. Belmonte (Deacon Joe) June 24, 2025. Deacon Joe was born on July 31, 1944 to Joseph Belmonte and Anna (Caruso)Belmonte of Revere. Always having a religious curiosity to learn more about his faith, he sent in a coupon from a boy's magazine to join the boys in Donaldson, Indiana studying to become priests of the Sacred Heart. A Priest from Indiana came to his home in Revere and young Joe began grade 8 in Donaldson, Indiana. He remained there until the end of grade 11 at which time he returned to enter Boston College High school from which he graduated. He graduated St. John's Seminary College and attended Boston State College to earn his Masters Degree in education and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Administration. He earned his living as a 6th grade teacher. He taught one year at the I.C. school in Revere and then transferred to the public school system teaching at the Paul Revere School, Garfield and Beachmont schools.
After marrying Barbara (Taylor)Belmonte and having two children, his son Joseph Belmonte Jr. and his daughter Kristen Jean Belmonte he entered St. John's Seminary once again to study for the Diaconate. Joe was ordained in Holy Cross Cathedral on May 17th 1980 as a Permanent Deacon for the Archdiocese of Boston serving all 45 years at St. Anthony's of Padua in Revere. As he served performing his ministry he came in contact with many people in many capacities.
In addition to serving at St. Anthony's he also served at Middleton House of Correction in prison ministry. Deacon Joe, a man of deep love for God, family and all he came in contact with who needed his many services whether they be performing marriages, Baptizing, Preaching, conducting Services, Funerals, Graveside, teaching marriage preparation and preparing Lectors and Eucharistic ministers as well as scheduling all volunteers, he did it all with joy to be of assistance.
Deacon Joe was predeceased by his two older sisters, Angela Hagberg of Peabody and Marie (Palmie) Mottola of Revere and leaves many nieces and nephews. Deacon Joe's unending and generous love was to the family he leaves behind: Barbara his wife of 55 years, Joe Jr. his son, Kristen Jean his daughter and her husband Alex his Son-in-law. Finally in God's presence enjoying new life in heaven.
A Visitation for Joe will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025, at Saint Anthonys Church 250 Revere Street, Revere, MA from 2:00- 6:00PM. On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, there will be an additional hour of Visitation held at 9:00AM, followed by a Mass starting at 10:00AM. The interment will be held at Holy cross Cemetery, Malden, MA .
