JOSEPH OLIVA BRAGA (1946-2017)
He died at home surrounded by family at sunset on Friday, September 1 after a 25 year valiant courageous battle with multiple sclerosis. Son of Aurora and Maurice Braga, husband of Linda, father of Alycia and Sarah and their husbands Jonathan and Angus, grandfather of Travis (8) and Aurora (5 weeks), brother of Gail Rivenberg, his late brothers, John (twin), Jimmy and Jay, special friends Kent and Jerry, angelic caregivers, Kathryn, Giana, Hanan, Eileen and Kathy and many previous angels, including Sharon, Chris, Peg, Wendy, Peg and Monica. Michael J. Higgins, M.D. and his staff, visiting nurses and CVN Hospice team. He will also be missed by Linda's siblings, Nell, Jamie, Jill and Scot and their families. He was in their lives since they were small and considered him as their big brother. Rescue dog Dixie will also miss their daily companionship. Joe attended Middleborough schools and graduated from SMU/Dartmouth in 1968. He worked in the printing business until his retirement in 1998.
Joe's life was an adventure – climbed Mount Katadin, boated and fished the Atlantic, for stripers and blues, carried on the family clambake tradition, tent camped, and rebuilt many vintage autos – one that came home in boxes – a 63-1/2 Sprint convertibles. Ted Williams and the NY Yankees scouted Joe during his high school baseball years. He was a simple man of many talents. He always had a twinkle in his eyes.
Donations may be made to the James Braga Scholarship, c/o Carrie Braga, 378 Plymouth Street, Middleborough 02346
No wake or funeral at his request. A CELEBRATION OF LIFE will be held at Joe and Linda's 34th Annual International Invitational on September 30. All are welcome any time after noon until sunset to visit or share a story.
