He was born in Pittsfield, MA on November 1, 1928, a son of Joseph Lawrence Calderella Sr. and Jennie (Lachina) Calderella. He attended local schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School with the class of 1946. After graduating, Joe enlisted in the U. S. Army, serving 3 years as a Military Police Officer, stationed in Colorado.

Following his service, Joe returned to Pittsfield and was employed by General Electric Co. for 39 years, as a draftsman, until his retirement in 1988. For decades he actively participated in, and managed, various bowling and golf leagues - continuing to golf into his nineties. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club and the Sons of Italy. He also enjoyed playing cards and was a lifelong New York Yankees baseball fan. Devoted husband and father, Joe recently celebrated his 59th wedding anniversary and continued to maintain a loving and supportive relationship with his children and grandchildren. He followed his grandchildren's activities online and was their biggest fan.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine (Macchia) Calderella, whom he married on May 25, 1963 and one son- Joseph Lawrence (Jennifer Dallmeyer) Calderella III of Westfield, MA and one daughter- Gina M. (Brian) Farrell of Feeding Hills, MA. He also leaves five grandchildren- Joseph E. Calderella, Molly Hansen, Mia E. Calderella, Jonathan R. Farrell, and Sarah R. My dad Joseph Pierro was asking about his friend Joe Calderella just recently. He remembered him fondly and wanted us to send his regards. They were draftsmen together at GE. We lived on Unkamet drive and they played golf together. Rest In Peace.
