Interment to follow in St.Mary's Stony Hill Cemetery, Watchung, NJ. Arrangements are by the Paul Ippolito Berkeley Memorial, Berkeley Heights, NJ.
Joseph was born in Newark, NJ and has resided in Warren for over 30 years.
He was a proud patriot and joined the US Marine Corps in 1950 during the Korean War, where he received the Marines sharpshooter medal, honorably discharged in 1953. Joseph deeply believed in the Marine Corps motto, Once a Marine, Always a Marine. He loved being a Marine and wore his Marine cap every day. Following his service to our country, he embarked on a long professional career in maintenance with the AT&T Laboratories of Murray Hill, NJ.
Joseph had many hobbies and passions in life. He enjoyed the art of creating pictures using thin pieces of wood called marquetry. He enjoyed working with his hands and was a skilled carpenter, building tables, Christmas reindeer and many other beautiful items. Many years ago, he won first prize in the mixed media category of the Summit Art Center Members Show for his displayed work, Sunday Ride, executed in laid wood. A talented carpenter and painter, he loved painting with his son for 40 years. Other passions of his were traveling and model train collection. He was a very athletic young man and maintained his passion for sports through his love of the NY Giants and Yankees.
Joseph is the beloved husband of Phyllis (Westbrook) Cardone; loving father of Joseph Cardone and his wife Lisa, Lisa Ann Gervasio and her husband Frank, Sue Cardone and her partner Bruce Gaylen; cherished grandfather of AnnMarie Gervasio-Burns and her husband Jaycob, Stephanie Kiernan and her husband Sean, Peter Gervasio and Jenna Lynn Welsh and her husband Michael and great-grandfather of Adelina Kiernan, Owen Kiernan, Natalia (Tali) Felice Gervasio-Burns and Alexandra Welsh; dear brother of Dan Oliva and Ken Oliva. He was also survived by several nephews and many friends.
He was pre-deceased by his first wife Felicia Cardone, his son Larry Cardone and his granddaughter Jessica Lynn Cardone.
Joseph's warmth, kindness and strength will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was very social in the community as a long-time member of the People of Hope. As we remember his remarkable life, we celebrate the love he shared and the legacy he leaves behind.
