Dorothy L. Whitford

Dorothy L. Whitford (née Soriano), 99, of Warren, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025, at Autumn Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey.
Born and raised on Staten Island, New York, the daughter of the late Helen N. (née Olwig) and Edward Soriano, Dorothy led a long and accomplished life marked by dedication, intelligence, and compassion. After attending some college courses, she began her professional career in the personnel department of the Staten Island Advance newspaper. She later joined New York and Suburban Bank on Staten Island, where her hard work and leadership guided her rise through the ranks to become the bank's president - a remarkable achievement that reflected both her professionalism and her pioneering spirit.
Following her banking career, Dorothy served as the personnel administrator at Wagner College for ten years, retiring in 1991. In the early 1980's she and her cherished husband William relocated to Warren, New Jersey, where she had resided since.
Dorothy was predeceased in 2024 by her beloved husband, William W. Whitford, Jr. She was also predeceased by her dear sister, Margaret Barrett, and her brother, Thomas Soriano.
She is survived by her loving nieces and nephew, Edward Barrett, Nancy Exarchos, and Barbara Boyer.
A private burial of ashes will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy's memory to a charity of one's choice.
