Joseph Arthur Cavalier, known affectionately as Joe to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2025, in Corpus Christi, Texas, after a courageous battle with dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Born on August 17, 1943, in Camp Cooke, California, Joe was a man of honor, intelligence, and deep love for his family and country.
Joe's early years were spent in the nurturing care of his parents, the late Joseph and Impi Cavalier. He grew up in Wilmington, Delaware alongside his sister, Carol Maynor (Jacob). Joe's formative years were filled with the joy of discovery and the formation of lifelong values that would guide him throughout his life.
He pursued higher education with a passion for building and design, earning a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Delaware followed by a master's in Environmental Engineering from Northwestern University. His academic achievements laid the foundation for a distinguished career in engineering, where his analytical mind and love for the environment could thrive.
Joe served his country with distinction as a veteran of the Army Corp of Engineers, a role that allowed him to combine his patriotic spirit with his engineering skills. After his military service, he continued to serve communities as a civil engineer at Turner, Collie & Braden, Inc., as a partner at Quadrant Consulting, Inc., as the City Engineer for the City of LaGrande, Oregon, and finally as a Project Engineer for the City of Corpus Christi, Texas. His work in these roles not only showcased his intelligence but also his unwavering commitment to the betterment of society.
At the heart of Joe's life was his beloved wife, Linda, who stood by him through every challenge and triumph. Together, they raised their son, Corey (Julia), and cherished the joy brought into their lives by their granddaughters, Amanda and Cecily. Joe's love for his family was the beacon that guided him, and he instilled in them the values of love, dedication, and the pursuit of knowledge.
Joe's zest for life was evident in his numerous interests. He had a passion for the great outdoors, often found dancing to the rhythm of life, hiking through nature's beauty, bicycling along winding paths, fishing in serene waters, and immersing himself in the pages of a good book.
Friends and colleagues describe Joe as analytical, loving, and intelligent – a man who approached every challenge with a logical mind and every person with an open heart. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, compassion, and a commitment to making the world a better place.
Joe's memory will be cherished and kept alive by his family, including his wife Linda; son Corey (Julia); granddaughters Amanda and Cecily; sister Carol Maynor (Jacob); and his nieces, great-niece, great-nephew and cousins, who will all miss him dearly.
Joseph A. Cavalier lived a life of purpose and love. His journey on earth may have concluded, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who knew him, and his contributions will resonate for generations to come. The world is a better place because of Joe, and though he will be missed, his legacy will endure.
